Lisa Marie Malanij is a fashion designer, illustrator, and stylist from Cleveland, Ohio. An alumni of Kent State University’s The Fashion School with a BFA in Fashion Design and a minor in marketing.
Freelancing and creating collections for herself as soon as she graduated from fashion school gave her the entrepreneurial spirit to learn the mechanics of a small business owner in apparel through her own label and contracting for others. She is always learning and expanding her knowledge from those around her and her experiences.
In 2010 she debut her collection CIRCLE.SQUARE, which featured an androgynous minimal interchangeable 17 piece look collection for women, men, and all orientations in greyscale neutral colors, which debuted during Cincinnati Fashion Week 2010 and an expanded collection during Cleveland Fashion Week 2010.
Environmentally conscious sustainable fashion became such a passion that she created an upcycled line, 3xHEARTS by Lisa Malanij in 2012. Each unique streetwear garment is made from fabric scraps, donated or deadstock fabrics, and donated or thrifted garments. 3xHEARTS is an ongoing project sold online through her Etsy shop and pop-up boutiques among Cleveland such as The Collective Upcycle and The Cleveland Flea.
As a hobby Lisa enjoys competing in costume craftsmanship competitions, winning Best of Hallway Show Craftsmanship (Youmacon 2014) or First Place (Ohayocon 2013) or Second Place/Runner Up of the craftsmanship division entered (Colossalcon 2013, Colossalcon 2014). She also had volunteered as a cosplay craftsmanship judge and panelist to promote the craftsmanship hobby of costumes and cosplay for competition and fun. She finds fun in creating costumes for herself and others as a way to play with new looks and challenge her pattern making and production skills. P.S. Her favorite cosplay con is Colossalcon :]
She has been in featured interviews with both the Cleveland Scene and Cleveland Plain Dealer and various other websites for her involvement integral to the Cleveland fashion scene. She has spoken and given presentations to high schools and junior highs in the Northeast Ohio area about apparel production and fashion design for the next generation interested in fashion.
Former brands she has worked for include Yellowcake, Whiskey Grade, and an a design internship at Soundgirl in New York City.
Lisa is currently a Lead Pattern Maker for The Pattern Makers, located in the Art Craft Building downtown Cleveland, Ohio, where she creates patterns and fit blocks by hand for a variety of apparel brands and clients in all types of apparel (womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, sportswear, outerwear, athletic, streetwear, and sewn accessory categories.)
